The gap between SEO (Search Engine Marketing) and PR is getting smaller. For a few years now I have been working in search engine optimisation for some large clients and at the same time maintaining a this website.
With the incredible growth of social media on the internet lots of people in the SEO business have been talking about how SEO is becoming more like online PR.
It's long been known to us the relationship between many types of online marketing but this relatively new phenomena have caused a rethink and a shift in online presence away from the billboard approach to the smaller more integrated online PR and social media approach.
Time will tell, but already many players are making moves in this direction. Credit crunch and more awareness of a 'black art' are prompting more PR companies to look deeper into the data which underpins their campaigns - to make them smarter. Billboard pasting is no longer cost effective.
